Refreshingly Unique to the Genre

“The Traveler” presents a premise that is quite familiar to fans of science fiction. Our hero goes back in time and accidentally exploits chaos theory, changing the world he knew forever. He then has to figure out how to change things back. Or does he? This is where author Fredric Shernoff takes a common premise and turns it on its head. We’re all used to the story in which the hero is forced to find a way to restore the original timeline. Rare, however, is the story in which the protagonist must decide whether or not they actually wish to do so.
Part of the problem is that our hero, Daniel Wells, is a very novice time traveler. He isn’t too great at hitting his mark, which puts him in the unfortunate position of having to set up a new life while he waits for the right year to roll around. While doing this, he gets a job and meets his co-worker Suzy. He feels that his affection for her is wrong based on the lives he’s living in other timelines, but he is head over heels for her from their very first meeting. He now has to decide whether or not his love for this one woman is worth leaving behind everything he’s known.
Aside from this fresh twist on the genre, “The Traveler” also offers everything you’d want from a time travel story. You get to see Daniel try to fix the world in his favor. You get to explore morality and the potential for paradox. You get to wonder if you know what’s going to happen next, which won’t always be the case. Sometimes, you might be able to make an educated guess. But Shernoff’s writing is fresh, and his unique take on the genre prevents you from calling too much of the story ahead of time. This is a truly refreshing read for those looking for a new time travel story.

Couldn't stop reading

I love time travel stories and this one didn't disappoint at all. It was very absorbing and kept me up all night. The million and one scenarios our protagonist kept creating were fascinating and scary. This is a must read and I'm looking forward to reading more books from the author.

Interesting Time Traveler Book

“The Traveler” by Fredric Shernoff is an entertaining science fiction read revolving around time travel. The story follows a man named Daniel Wells who has just discovered that he has the ability to travel through time. It goes flawlessly at first and seems like an unimaginable gift, but on one (seemingly simple) time traveling excursion, something goes dreadfully wrong. Daniel goes into the past but makes a terrible mistake, which threatens not only his future, but also the very fabric of the universe itself. Daniel delves deeper and deeper into the past in an attempt to right the wrong but can he fix it before it’s too late?
I found “The Traveler” to be a fun read. I don’t typically read a lot of science fiction but was glad that I read this book. The author does a good job keeping the action and plot continuously moving forward. Daniel was a flawed protagonist but that made him seem more realistic and I was rooting for him to remedy the time traveling issues he faced. I would recommend to fans of science fiction and time traveler themes.
