Beautiful Women of North Dakota started with an idea that came to me some years ago, sparked by my experience as a single dad raising two young girls. Noticing the tremendous emphasis on physical beauty in magazines, television, and even in my own work, I wondered how I could expose my daughters to beauty that wasn t ephemeral beauty that would inspire them and pass the test of time. As a photographer, I imagined a project that would reveal the hidden beauty of remarkable women. Some years passed, and through my desire to explore this project remained, it wasn t until my wife, Chris Linnares, a best-seller author and psychotherapist from Brazil, urged me to tell the stories of the amazing women she was meeting throughout North Dakota on her speaking tours, that the Beautiful Women of North Dakota project was born. After identifying 22 women through ads in newspapers across the state, encouraging people to nominate the The Beautiful Women of their Lives, my wife and I decided to take a road trip in a motor home to expose our three daughters to everyday women creating extraordinary lives. As we began our journey to bring to light the stories of these beautiful women, my assumptions years ago were right. Each of these women in this book have given of themselves above and beyond what is expected. Women like, Deb Dawson, that in the book represent the Beauty of Love, who is working hard to build an orphanage in Sudan, or Christine Peterson, Beauty of Service, who is leaving her two children to serve in Afghanistan. These women aren t seeking recognition. They aren t the women gracing the cover of Vogue or whose stories are featured on Entertainment Tonight. But I firmly believe that these are the women who can truly inspire our daughters not to take the easy road, but instead, like the Navajo said, choose to Walk in beauty . The photography book, Beautiful Women of North Dakota, will be released at a photo exhibition reception at the Rourke Art Museum, on November 21, 2009 . We want to give the recognition those women deserve. They will be on the red carpet giving their vivid testimonial of how our world can be a better place when we choose the path less traveled.

About the Author
Billy Black has explored the visual arts most of his adult life. After beginning his career in the newspaper business in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he returned to his hometown of Fargo North Dakota and joined Forum Communications as general manager the fifth generation of this family-owned regional media business. There he won numerous local and regional awards for his work in print and television. Today Billy is Development Director for the Forum Communications Foundation, concentrating his energy on the philanthropic outreach of his family s business. Billy s film career began with his work on the feature film, Wooly Boys. This experience inspired him to form a film production company in Los Angeles Opal Films. The company s first feature, Myron s Movie, went on to numerous film festivals including Ciniquest, one of the top ten film festivals in the world. Capturing glimpses of life on film has been a passion of mine for years. When I was first learning how to see, I took photos at a mission in Grand Forks, North Dakota for a photo class. A Native American gentleman came up to me and demanded that I give him the film. He told me that taking someone s photograph captures part of the spirit and soul of the person. I soon learned he was right. Photography has the ability to capture the spirit and this is what inspires me to take pictures. I remember every moment of the process of each of the photos I have taken. I can tell you what the place smelled like and if it was warm or cold. I felt I truly captured the spirit of the moment along with the image and at times, glimpses of the soul. I hope I can pass this insight on to the viewer. And Billy s goals continue to grow. His family background and work in the media business allowed him to recognize the power of the media to influence our thoughts, our beliefs and our decisions. This recognition inspired him to steer his career in a related direction using those same media tools to bring positive change to the world around him. And thus, the Beautiful Women of project was born.

Chris Linnares A best-selling psychotherapist and author from Brazil, Chris Linnares has touched a generation of Brazilian women with her seminars, books, DVD, radio, and acclaimed one-woman show: Divas on the Divan. She was honored with a number of awards for developing social projects such as Arte Solidária, a program that offers people in underprivileged communities access to theatre performances and lectures on the development of human potential. Chris Linnares After marrying photographer and writer, Billy Black, Chris moved to Fargo, North Dakota where she has continued her work of empowering women through the publication of her inspirational novel, Cinderella on the Couch, and a book of poetry and photography, You Deserve, a collaboration with her husband. She is the creator of Diva Dance, an uplifting mind and body experience that empowers women through Latin dance movements. Best book for debate in terms of content and value!

I am a first-year assistant coach for Lincoln-Douglas debate and Student Congress. I found this book excellent both as a primer as well as for the more advanced strategies of research and rebuttals that it provides. It is a shame that there is no section for Public Forum, but this book does a fantastic job of presenting the kind of information that ALL debaters should know.

Good Book

I bought this book for teaching a Speech and Debate course for high school students. It can be a bit complicated for them, but overall it does give the students the opportunity to learn about what goes into learning the terms of forensics and most important of all, they learn how to conduct proper research, which for those who are teaching, know its a skill that students lack going into college.

NOT IMPRESSED, TOO SIMPLE & A BIT SILLY (would be a great gift for child, elderly or special needs persons)!

Not what I expected - though to be fair, the description on the book does say "contains 101 prompts" --- don't expect more than exactly that. Each page has one question at the top, in a huge font- the rest of the page is completely blank. Some of the questions are thought-provoking and intuitive; but most of the questions are silly - i.e. "List 20 things of your favorite color"... or "If you could take one song to a desert island, what would it be?" (That same question is asked on a completely different page asking which MOVIE you would take to a desert island!). This book is VERY simple; overall I'm not impressed. If anything, I would recommend this for an elderly person, or maybe for special needs persons - it would be a great gift for those cases.

In this book Jessica is furious that Jeremy is days away from marrying Sue. Jessica tries every trick up her sleeve to stop the wedding and Jeremy finally decides to tell Sue the truth, that he has no feelings for her, and he wants to cancel the wedding.

Everything goes to plan until Sue gets bad news that she has the same rare blood disease that killed her mother. Sue tells Jeremy that she only has three years left to live. Jeremy is so upset by the news, that he feels that he has to marry Sue.

When Jessica hears the news, she decides that she must find a way to stop the wedding, bad news or no bad news, Jessica wants Jeremy all to herself.

the best book i have ever read

The best book that I have read all year has to be Left at the Altar by Kate William .One of the reasons is because the book is like a mystery but then it turns into romance then back to a mystery. The next thing is the details of the story turns out the way you don't want it to! It's like somebody's going to kill somebody but that person kills them self instead. The final reason I like this book is the description of the story they explain everything of every detail so you would understand it better. Let me give you a brief summary of the book. The main characters are Elizabeth, Jessica, Sue, and Jeremy. Elizabeth and Jessica are the two twin sisters, and Jeremy and sue are the couple that supposed to get married. Until one day Elizabeth catches Jessica and Jeremy kissing. But poor sue doesn't know a thing. Then one day any old regular day Sue got a tragic letter saying that she has cancer. But Jessica gets stubborn and won't let Jeremy get married. So Jeremy has only one choice, should he or should he no?. I think that every body should read this good but tragic mystery.
