A book that all men should read.

As soon as I picked up the book I couldn't put it down til I finished. This is a great reference to what parents hope and pray that their boys strive and grow up to be. Everything that the writer discussed was well written and it was an easy read. Any man that strives to better themselves should definitely go and buy this book!!!! Will not be surprised when this book appears in the best sellers all over!

This book is an awesome read. It is an easy and quick read for all age groups. It really makes you delve into the essence of what it takes and what it means to be a gentleman. The illustrations are so vivid and the diagrams used are very easy to follow. The stories used as examples are my favorite aspect of the book because it helps us ( the reader) connect with the author. I think that the inclusion of a self questionnaire at the end of the book really helps the reader tie everything together and make a personal interaction with the literature. This is a wonderful and enriching book as it gets you to examine, think about, develop and shape one's own gentleman's code. In today's society the idea of a "true gentlemen" and chivalry is almost non existing. I feel that books like this one can really make a difference in helping revive those values in all men. A great gift for young and old!!!!!!

This book takes us through a journey of making a responsible man in today's world. It is so practical, and the writer has included several personal anecdotes. It makes for an easy read. In today's world when many young men are struggling to find an identity in a world crowded with so much junk on TV and the internet, this book provides some guidance on how to be focused and become a successful, responsible man in the society.

A lot of the principles described apply not only to men but to women as well. I think every parent should read this book.
It is easy to read, funny at times, academic sometimes, and overall a very enjoyable read.

Congratulations to the writer for a very good job done researching and writing this book.

The Reference Book I will keep with me for years

I thought I had a good understanding of Remote Sensing until I purchased this text and took Prof. Olsen's class. The book is written very concisely but is packed with information. A background in Physics will be helpful in using this text as it covers Remote Sensing and Satellite Technology from the most fundamental levels.

Since the book itself is somewhat small in size I plan to keep it with me as a handy reference throughout my career.

This is a great introductory book to the field of space-based remote sensing for engineers. It has a right balance of engineering details for many remote sensing satellites (IKONOS, Landsat,...) and the description of the underlying phenomenologies related to those missions.

About the Author

George G. Pennacchi is a professor of finance and a co-director of the Office for Banking Research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.� He is also a Research Associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and the Program Coordinator for Deposit Insurance at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s Center for Financial Research.� His research focuses on financial intermediaries and the valuation of fixed-income securities and government guarantees.

Currently, he is an editor of the Journal of Financial Intermediation and an associate editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Financial Services Research, and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.� Previously, he was an associate editor for the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, and Management Science, and a co-editor of Advances in Futures and Options Research.

Excellent book

I spent a semester reading this book in detail and I must say it is really good. That's because it strikes a perfect balance between mathematical rigor and easiness of reading. There are many other financial economics texts that cover similar or the same topics but I think none of them are as readable as this one. Pennacchi does a great job at presenting the material in a very logical and coherent manner. There are no conceptual jumps, you will never ask yourself "Where did this come from?" and all the math required to understand the book is explained in detail. The author starts in the first chapter with the basic axioms that preferences need to satisfy and by gradually presenting the required mathematical tools and economic concepts he talks about dynamic asset pricing and other advanced concepts in the later chapters.
The range of topics covered is broad and at the end of every chapter there are some really good exercises. To sum up, I love this book because there are no conceptual gaps and you are never left guessing. I have also used Cochrane's and Duffie's books and I think Pennacchi's book is much better.

Be Careful

The book makes a good job on updating Ingersoll's book, The Theory of Financial Decision-Making. Also it explains hard finance in an easy way. Under that perspective, the book is really good. However, it has some pitfalls the reader should be aware of:

1. The Math in the book is really not demanding. So it is appropriate for an MBA or an advanced undergrad. course in finance. As such, it should be a companion book in any PhD course, instead of the main reference.
2. Since the Math is not demanding, the book overpass many concepts that might be useful to know in the future. Consequently, I do not think the book is enough for developing research in the field. It is not bad, if you do not intend to make research in the field but you are only curious about finance.
3. On the other hand, it is fair to say that it is enough to let you in advanced theoretical papers. At least, studying the book gives some intution you'll need to follow more mathematical demanding articles.
4. The notation is not that much usual and there is sometimes some confusion, but those are minor mistakes that should be corrected in future editions.
5. I'm still waiting for a book that balances equally well theoretical concepts in finance with rigorous Math. To be concrete, I do not think the treatment given given in the book on Stochastic Integrals is appropriate for a PhD student in economics or finance, meaning it should be more rigorous.

The problem of not being rigorous is that it makes you believe finance is easy, and that's not true. The second problem is that it produces a hollow in the knowledge that beginners often do not know.

The conclusion is that the author aims a huge audience for his book and he is successful, no doubt. But it is true the author does not intend to be deep either. That's a fair choice, but the reader should be aware of it in advance.

About the Author
David Greenwood lives just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, with his wife and son. On the drug Ritalin for many of his childhood years, David was hyperactive, unfocused, and faced many academic challenges in school, including flunking out freshman year at a vocational high school—a clear case of ADHD. 
 
An entrepreneur at heart, he owns Street Smart PR/Video, a small public relations and video marketing firm. Over the years, David has owned other small businesses including a karate school, as well as a popular restaurant in suburban Boston. With the exception of twelve years, he has always been self-employed as an adult.
 
As a person with ADHD, he feels ADHD has always fueled his desire to be his own boss. For him, ADHD has given him a creative and energetic edge in the business world. In writing Overcoming Distractions, he set out to find others who also felt that ADHD was, in fact, a gift if managed properly. David has always been driven to create his own path to success, and he wanted to tell the stories of other successful people with ADHD.

A Handbook for ADHD success

Great book - I love how the author mixes the symptoms, the science and how others have used it to their benefit. I find some other books are heavy on the theories and should-a, would-a, could-a but not this book! The examples are relatable to most anyone, yet really focus in on those who have already struggled. The book allowed them to share their personal stories about the internal/external hardships within families, friendships, relationships, professions and other experiences that lead to self discovery, healing, overcoming and ultimately thriving. Well written enough to skip to a chapter or read cover to cover. I am giving this book to my son, I hope he can find himself in one of the many stories and that it will help him avoid some pitfalls. He is the very definition of ADHD and I know he is smart enough to use the information in the book to inspire and excel.

I bought this book because I knew of the author through business and wanted to support him. I never thought I would read it. I read the book because I was intrigued after reviewing the table of contents. I couldn't put the book down. I often read business books and this book fit in through the entrepreneurs that David interviewed. It's proof that ADHD Folks can have a successful business. It showed me a different perspective on ADHD! Well done David, this is now a must read recommendations for entrepreneurs.

I fell in love when I first discovered this series of small books.

My daughter is now married and lives in California. She & my son-in-law come to visit us in the Midwest about once a year. I always leave some things on "their" bed for a "I love you" gift. This time along with a few other small gifts, I left a couple books - and this was one of them. I will always remember my son-in-law walking into the living room holding this book. He showed my daughter a picture and told her that is where they go walking ... he liked the book. He was smiling and I was thrilled. I told him they had a whole series of books like this ... God willing, he'll find a couple more on the bed when they come for their next visit.

A Fascinating Gem of old Hollywoodland!

This book is a gem for anyone who loves both Hollywood history and Southern California Romantica architecture. Like other Arcadia titles, this book is chock-a-block with wonderful images. The book is well written, informative and a delightful read. My only caveat was that some of the architectural drawings could not have been produced in color.

In short, if you love old Hollywood and feel any kind of nostalgia for the Hollywood sign and the story behind it, this is a must have book.

Love the photographs

Wonderful photographs in this book. I am currently collecting books on the history of Hollywood and when I saw this one I had to have it.

The photos were clear and tell much about the development of the area. The bibliography at the end was an added bonus. When writing a novel about a time and place far from where I live the photographs are the next best thing to being there and these do not disappoint. The blurbs and captions have given me additional dates and information for research in the future.

A los amantes de los episodios �picos, magistralmente narrados por Dumas en sus libros, les espera una detallada descripci�n del asedio y de la batalla del paso de Suze. Un libro muy ameno e interesante.
