Sadly overshadowed by many other Fords from both pre- and post-war periods, and moving budget motoring onto a more sophisticated footing than some of the toot foisted on the British motoring public, the poor little Model Y deserved far more recognition than it received – until Sam Roberts' book was published.

Like Thacker's '32 title, this looks at the reasons behind the car's creation, how its design evolved, the various body types and the more peculiar versions, including a tiny bus, a tipper and a three-wheeled 'tug' version. The vans are stunning, and Roberts' book is crammed full of illustrations and drawings, one of the best being the shot (on page 188) of a Ford dealer workshop in Southsea in 1948.

And like all cars, there were several key people behind their concept and eventual production, and the author looks at them. He also looks at the plants that assembled the Y around the globe.

In my opinion its the best book I've ever read about the ModelY.
It gives a complete view of the modelY history, with lots of photos and details.
Its a must!!!

This text is a must for any practicing engineer who works with hazardous materials. Ample reference sections and thorough, well written explanations in the text make this book the first place I look for information when confronted with a problem now that I am in the "real world," but also when I was still in school.

Topics covered in the text include:

Environmental chemistry (structures/naming of organics,pKa's, solubility, chemical incompatibility, etc)
Chemical behavior in the environment (sorption, retardation, partioning, volatilization, henry's law, etc)

Beautiful and Powerful

The Princess Saves Herself in This One is a collection of poetry in four parts: the princess, the damsel, the queen, and you. Honestly, I have a hard time calling this poetry because it’s more than that. This collection is raw emotion and life experiences manifested as words. It’s pain, suffering, self-reflection, self-discovery, love, loss, and more. I could spend years reading and re-reading it, carefully editing this draft, and I still wouldn’t be able to do it justice.

As I read this, I had a couple of thoughts between sudden outbursts of tears. One was that I hadn’t read a collection of poetry that I related to and felt the words so deeply since my first encounter with Sylvia Plath’s poetry when I was a teenager. The second was that I probably should have read it with tissues and wine.

I’ve had book hangovers before, but what I’m experiencing after reading The Princess Saves Herself in This One isn’t a book hangover, it’s a haunting. The words won’t leave me, and I’m ok with that. I bought the Kindle edition of this because A) I could have it and read it faster, and B) money was tight when I bought it. But, I think I’m going to order a physical copy ASAP because I want this on my poetry shelf. Something this important, something that touched my life in the way this book did (which I can’t convey in words, so I’m not going to try)… it deserves a spot on my shelf. I’m certain this will be something I read again…and again.

A MUST READ (Very Powerful Poetry!)

(I have a feeling that this will be on my top 2016 books)

I kept seeing this book around, so when it was free on Amazon I decided why not try it out? I AM SO INCREDIBLY GLAD I DID! This book was incredibly powerful, it is just.... so so SO powerful. But more on that later, first here is the summary!

The Princess Saves Herself in this one is divided into four separate parts, The Princess, The Damsel, The Queen and You. I don't read poetry books often, honestly, I don't like poetry all that much. The only other poetry book I read was Poisoned Apples, which like this book dealt with some heavy topics, although Poisoned Apples was more of a feminist book... I'm not entirely sure how to review poetry, so I wrote down some thoughts for each part, but first, here's the short of it!

In its entirety:

This book deals with some heavy topics, but they are IMPORTANT issues like anorexia, depression, and abuse just to name a few.
The poetry was just so... AMAZING. I can't explain it but the way the words moved was fast paced but oh so interesting and I just could not put this book down. It was captivating and heart breaking but near the end, it became warm/had a good message.
The Princess Saves Herself in this One started off very dark, and sad but near the end things get better. Like I said, the message was FANTASTIC (I think I'm going to buy it!)
Very short and quick read, so people with not a lot of time can finish it in about an hour! SHARE IT with others!

The Princess:

This is probably one of the darkest beginnings I've ever read. But in the summary, it says that the first three parts are the authors life and the final is a message to the reader. The Princess (from what I picked up) deals with Anorexia, depression and bullying.
Though this was really dark, it was POWERFUL and I can't say that enough. This book nearly brought me to TEARS. The message was just so GOOD and I just CANT explain how AMAZING this one, honestly, everyone should read it. The YOU part is what got to me the most D: well, all four parts go to me....

The Damsel:

My interpretation of this was young love and broken hearts.
There as a LOT of loss in this chapter, a LOT and I was close to crying. I'm not a fan of poetry, but this poetry was so beautifully worded and pieced together and it made me feel things. It (not this section) made me smile/feel victorious and cry (this chapter DID make me cry!)

The Queen:

This section was about loving yourself, and growing stronger.
THIS is where the book starts to get a lighter feel and like all three other sections, was POWERFUL (I can't say that enough D:

Best Cat Tree Plans Ever! Must Have This Book!

This is the absolutely best cat tree plan book I have ever found. It is very well written, illustrated, and photographed. I have now built two of the two step with two cat perches. One is for my kitties and they were trying it out before I finished carpeting it. The other is going to an animal shelter for the cat room for Christmas. I hope more people buy this book, make their own cat trees and then make a few to give to the local rescues and animal shelters. The cat trees are simple to build, labor intensive when carpeting, but worth the effort when you see what a strong, well built piece of furniture you have created. And the joy of making a few for the shelters just makes my giving so much more special! Thanks for an awesome book!

Easy to follow, my cats love the new cat tree

The plans were detailed and easy to follow, even for a novice. My son and I built the cat tree staircase with the two platforms for our cats Comet and Boots . Since we finished it they have been on it day and night. The cat tree is very sturdy and came out pretty good and I expect it to last a very long time. We plan to build the window perch next.

Best to be used with iPad - why can't I get this in a real book with pages?

My husband is dead set on building our own cat trees. We are disappointed in the store bought stuff that falls apart/won't handle our 14lb cat's running jump.

I couldn't figure out how to get this book work on my kindle - it's black & white and the pictures he needed just didn't work. Additionally, the buttons weren't going to stand up to my husband's changing pages/needing everything enlarged. Very frustrating!

Then, I figured out - put it on his iPad! Brilliant!!!

I still wish someone would put this book in print. It would be very nice for those handy-do-it-yourself people.

I am still afraid my husband is going to use a carpenter's pencil to write notes on his iPad :-(

Could have been half the length and twice as interesting.

The book was fairly interesting. The author rarely explained how he came to some of the profiling conclusions that he reached. It seemed that the book became repetitive in the sense that the author would just say "I predicted the killer would have this set of traits, and lo and behold, he did!"
The author has led a very impressive life, and he is very aware of that fact.

Great book and a scary world out there

All these stories and profiles are just so interesting. I enjoyed the way Douglas recounts cases and his own story in the FBI. Of course all the cases are eye-openers for all the creepy things that people do, but it's also a story about great guys putting the clues together and doing something. So that's good. I picked up this book after reading Anatomy of Murder and I'll definitely keep buying Douglas and Olshaker' s books.

There Are Evil People

For those who believe that evil exists in the world and some people should not be allowed to walk among us, this book is for you. John Douglas recounts the formation of the FBI's Investigative Support Unit. He describes some to the nations most notorious serial killers and the story of how they were hunted down and, in most cases, brought to justice.

He offers a great pearl of wisdom near the end of the book regarding crime in America: "I believe that the only chance of solving our crime problem is if enought people want to. More and more courts and more prisons and better investigative techniques are fine, but the only way crime is going to go down is if all of us simply stop accepting and tolerating it in our families, our friends, and our associates."

Douglas is a strong supporter of the death penalty and explains his reasoning several times in the book. The NRA's "Refuse to be a Victim" course recommend's this book for "insight into criminals' minds". If you simply do not want to know about evil people, do not read this book.

The only negative for me was that Douglas has a very high opinion of himself and, in many of the cases, rides in and "solves" the crime with his profile of the killer. Also, not a "gun guy" he gets a reference to S&W and Colt backwards (p. 230) and refers to a .223 Mini-14 as a "high powered hunting rifle" (p. 241).

A worthwhile addition to your library.

I felt an aching compassion for young men embarking in troop trains to be slaughtered

Bertrand Russell was an utmost clinical analyzer of the scriptures of his colleague-philosophers. With his penetrating mathematical insights he could easily translate their often dark and contorted formulations into plain comprehensible sentences and expose the real meaning and/or the inner contradictions of their highbrow wordings.

In this book, he exposes harshly the morass of linguistics and Wittgenstein's `Philosophical Investigations', demolishes William James, tells how he destroyed unintentionally Frege's life work and gives insightful comments on Tarski, Ryle and his own struggle with induction.

Astonishingly, the main influence on his life as a philosopher was not a philosophic problem, but World War I: `One effect of that war was to make it impossible for me to go on living in a world of abstraction.' It turned him away from pure mathematics.

Morass of linguistics
Bertrand Russell had no `sympathy with those who treat language as an autonomous province.' For him, `the essential thing about language is that it has meaning, that it is related to something non-linguistic.'
As Karl Popper said, linguistics is nothing more than cleaning one's spectacles.

Wittgenstein
Bertrand Russell was extremely harsh for Wittgenstein's second philosophical period (the `Philosophical Investigations'), where `we are now told that it is not the world that we are to try to understand but only sentences', nor the separation of `what may count as knowledge from what must be rejected as unfounded opinion.'
